30 Day Photo Challenge – Day 15 and Day 16

06.24.2011

Okay so I totally fell off the wagon yesterday!  I thought about my photo a couple of times during the day, but didn’t really schedule any time for it or think of what I wanted to photograph.  Then I played a video game and watched YouTube videos late into the night (which is when I usually do my photos, around 11pm), and then it was way past midnight by the time I realized I had forgotten!

Today I totally didn’t want to get back on track.  I just thought “Blah, I missed a day, this is dumb, I don’t even want to do it anymore!”  This is suuuuper common for me to do…  and even when I get back on the wagon, I usually fall off again in a few more days and it’s really hopeless then….  But I feel ever-so-slightly attached to this challenge, I think because I’m so surprised that I’ve managed to make it this far without missing a day (well, until now).  I would have guessed that the thought of getting out my camera and figuring out something to photograph would have just seemed too exhausting/overwhelming many many times by now.  I think it helps that I keep my camera out of it’s bag most of the time, and now that I’m learning my camera’s settings a little better, it’s easier to get a good photo within a shorter amount of time.  Maybe blogging about it has also helped?  Maybe the fact that I’ve been doing it around the same time every day (only because 11pm is the latest I can possibly do it, haha) has helped me form kind of a habit?  It doesn’t seem so daunting since I’ve done it consistently for a couple weeks!

Anyway, I’m pretty proud of myself for getting this far, and I’m glad I wasn’t lazy and went ahead and took today’s photo (and yesterday’s), even though if you had asked me an hour ago if it was worth doing, I probably would have said no because I was in lazy mode.

Maybe I can get into the habit of.. keeping up habits!

Yesterday’s challenge was to photograph anything I wanted.  I didn’t really want to photograph anything in particular, so I just played with my camera settings some (I guess having a free challenge is a good way to experiment and learn!), particularly with a really narrow aperture making everything clear and crisp!  Since my lighting was pretty bad, I had to keep the camera super still to keep things from being blurry, so I just photographed stuff I could put on the table in front of the camera, like wedding rings!

I also liked this one of my lens cap, check out the crispness!

Today’s challenge was to play with light trails.  Fun!  I set up my tripod at the top of the stairs.  Right when I pressed the shutter, a specter floated in front of the camera and down the stairs into the living room, leaving glowing path behind her…

Can you see her standing at the bottom of the stairs?

=)

Tomorrow’s challenge is to take a photo with street lights…  I might have to take some creative license with this one, as our street lights are pretty boring during the day, and it’s the middle of June and I am NOT going out into the Gross Bug Convention that takes place outside our apartment every night to take some photos.  Humph.
