Beautiful Saturday in Austin

Texas Capitol

Texas Capitol on a beautiful day

We decided to show Mike a little bit of Austin when he came to visit last weekend.  Nick and I had never really explored downtown much ourselves either!  When we first came to Austin, my friend Whitney’s parents took us out to dinner and gave us a driving tour around the city, showing us all the cool places.  Besides that, we went downtown once for a party and once to check out SXSW, and that’s been it!  So we planned out our Saturday:  park in the Capitol building visitor parking lot, walk down Congress until we find some breakfast burritos, check out the rest of Congress, walk back up to the Capitol, take a tour, and then walk up and down Guadalupe.

Brothers in Austin!

Our plans didn’t pan out exactly like that.  Instead, we walked down Congress and found a lot of stuff wasn’t open yet, or was pretty pricey, so we ended up walking all the way down to the end of the hip happening area before deciding on eating at the Magnolia Cafe.  It was pretty busy, but we were seated pretty quickly and had a delicious breakfast!  Then we walked back up Congress, making a stop at Uncommon Objects (super cool antique and found-object store.  It really lives up to its name!) before getting back to the Capitol building.  We caught one of the free, 30 minute tours which was fairly interesting, and walked around a little bit.  We saw two wedding photo sessions and an engagement photo session while we were there!

Rotunda: Look closely, it says "TEXAS" around the star!

After the Capitol, we were too exhausted to do anything else, so we just went back home and played Heavy Rain until it was time to go see Alice.

Sounds like fun! I was asking Mike how his trip was and he asked if you wrote about his visit because I pretty much knew everything that you guys did already. Haha. Thanks for enabling my creepiness!
