Wanted: Favorite ModCloth Items of the Week

04.02.2010

It’s Friday, so that means it’s time for the weekly ModCloth review!  Lots of cute, springy clothes this week.  =)

Spring Has Sprung!

  1. Turquoise Poise Trench – I love the strong, bright color of this trench!  It looks pretty sturdy, too.  Some reviewers say the buttons are barely attached though.. this seems to be a common problem in ModCloth clothes..
  2. Periwinkle and a Nod Shorts – I’d like to get some more shorts that aren’t denim, I have way too much summer denim!  These seem cute and lightweight, and could also be layered with leggings for cooler days.
  3. Lisbon Dress – Light and airy, with embroidery and pockets?  Love it!
  4. Don’t Weave Me Girl Heel – The close-up shots of these shoes make them look really comfortable.. the leather just looks so soft and almost a little broken-into already!
  5. Carlow Trench – Another super bright trench coat!  I’m not sure if I like the gold buttons (but apparently they’re falling off too, haha) but I like the dark piping.
  6. Cabbage Rose Top – I’m a little torn on this one, I’m not sure it’s something I would actually wear if I bought it.  It’s a little mid-90′s and I’m not sure what I would pair it with… but it has my favorite colors, and flowers, and it looks so airy and comfortable!
  7. The Brightside Dress – Everything about this dress is so super cute!
  8. Art Exhibition Dress – Love this one, totally funky and modern!

Biz Caz Fri

  1. In Stitches Heel – These just seem nice and classic, and like they would go with a lot of outfits.
  2. Siren Song Shorts – Charcoal and black, what a great combination!  This would be in line with my no-denim-shorts attempt.
  3. Sheer Royalty Tunic – Pretty, flowy, purple, easy to dress up or down!
  4. Perfectly Persimmon Bag – The only purses I have owned for a while are Strand canvas bags that my brother sent when he still lived in New York.  They’re great for just throwing all of your stuff into and running out the door, but they’re not so great for things like job interviews and going out on the town.  This seems like a great, quality, all-occasion purse.
  5. Lucha Libre Top – This seems like a nice, classy top.  A grown-up top, haha.  I don’t have very many of these.
  6. Livingstone Peep Toe Wedge – These shoes are so cool!  If these turned out to be comfortable, I bet I’d wear them all the time.  And the ankle cuffs remind me of Sailor Venus, which is always a good thing.
  7. Dans le Noir Top – I already have a few of black cardigans, this shirt would fit right in!
  8. Business Un-casual Top – What a cool top!  It’s super fitted, full of stripes, and looks really fashion-forward.

Just for Fun

  1. SOS Brooch – How cute!  I often put together  nautical-esque outfits, usually with a small anchor necklace.  I’m not sure if this brooch would be too blatant in a nautical ensemble, but it sure is cute!
  2. Shoegaze Boot – What are these boots!!  They look crazy! They’re teal pastel!  They have stars and hearts cut out of them!  These shoes are like.. my childhood embodied in a shoe.  I don’t know when or where I could ever wear these, but somehow I want them so badly!
  3. Pretty in Prairie Dress in Noir – I like the idea of this one, but I’m not sure if I would actually wear it.  From afar it almost looks like flannel, which doesn’t jive with me.
  4. Periwinkle Promenade Dress – I already have too many low-cut dresses, so I probably wouldn’t get this one anytime soon, but I liked it because it reminded me of Yuna’s skirt in Final Fantasy X-2 =)
  5. Notes on a Sandal – Wowza!  I love love love these sandals!  They look so cool..and I bet they’re super comfy.  I love the way the ties down the front are offset.
  6. Deep Purple Dress – I’ve never had a sweater dress, but I’m always cold, so this would be great in the wintertime with a pair of leggings and boots!
  7. Baba-blue Dress – I’m a big I Love Lucy fan, and just love all the beautiful, classic dresses Lucy wore in the show.  This is one of my favorite dresses on ModCloth and I’m glad to see it’s back in stock!  I just want to put it on and twirl around!

That’s all for this week!  See you on Monday!

Ahh hurray for Spring colors! I recently started checking out the reviews on ModCloth…I love that people take the time to do that because when you can’t try the items on, it’s nice to know about the little things like loose buttons! When I saw the Art Exhibition dress, I really wanted to go to an art exhibition in it… I don’t have many strapless things though, not sure how well it suits me.

Ha at the “Biz Cas Fri”! Ditto on not having many grown-up tops! I especially love the last two!

They always have some craaaazy shoes… sometimes I really want them but then end up thinking I wouldn’t end up wearing them because… what would I wear them with?!

I vote definitely keep up the ModCloth posts! Love it!

Reviews are definitely a big help! (That’s actually what my company does =) ) I’m just so frustrated to see so many reviews that say either 1. the buttons are coming off, 2. the fabric is thin, flimsy, and wrinkle-prone, or 3. everything fits great except the bust. I bought my rehearsal dinner dress from modcloth, and discovered it suffered from case 2 and 3, so I ended up wearing a sweater the whole night so you couldn’t see down the front of my dress! I did some alterations on it and wore it on Easter, but now it fits reeally tight in the chest.. It’s just so frustrating to see all these expensive, beautiful clothes turn out to be poor quality!

I have way too many pairs of shoes already.. haha, I totally baffled my dad with my sudden interest in shoes in college. I was never really a tomboy, but I never cared about my appearance or fashion either. Most of my cute shoes that I don’t wear are mostly because they’re so uncomfortable =( But with those teal shoes, I really don’t think I would ever have an outfit to wear them with, haha, unless it was Halloween.

    Hi!
Thanks for featuring our items on your blog!

And in response to Natalie, hopefully you’ll read this again!! We work with so many small independent designers and they’re all given a chance, but once we receive bad reviews or comments from our customers, which we include to be honest and make sure you’re informed, we quit working with a designer. I hope this puts your mind at ease about ordering from us. If you have any other questions please feel free to e-mail me directly.

Thanks so much for the reply, Aire! (And I hope you read this again too! I’m still working on getting replies to notify the original poster!) I really appreciate your transparency on this issue. It’s understandable that there’s no way to screen every product before selling it on the site, and there’s no way to know how an item will fit different customers! And fabric that is “cheap and thin” to one person might seem “airy and comfortable” to another! But it’s good to know that you guys are taking action when customers voice their dissatisfaction with a product. Is there any way for the designers to resubmit an improved version of the item that got bad feedback? It seems like it’s all my favorite designs that end up having complaints, haha, it’s a bit of a shame they’re gone forever!

But anyway, your comment does put my mind at ease! Your policy, use of reviews, and feedback on little blogs like mine all really show ModCloth’s commitment to quality and to customer satisfaction! Thanks so much!

        Hi again Natalie!
Thanking you for keeping an open mind about this! We do work very hard to keep all of our customers happy, so its nice to know that our hard work is paying off! You bring up an interesting point with the “defective” pieces from certain designers. I can definitely pass that idea along to our customer care team!

Thanks again for featuring us and being a fan! We owe a lot of our success to people like you!

        xoxo,
        Aire
